Vision and Health Literacy: Essential for Independence in Older Adults

Older adults with visual impairments often have lower health literacy, making them more vulnerable within the healthcare system. Understanding and applying medical information can be challenging for them.

Busra’s new research focuses on the relationship between vision and health literacy in older adults receiving home care. By gaining a better understanding of this relationship, we can develop strategies to make health information more accessible, enabling older adults to make independent and informed decisions about their health.

The Goal of the Research: Empowering Older Adults

The aim of this study is simple yet crucial: to promote self-management and independence among older adults with visual impairments. Understanding the link between vision and health literacy can help us tailor healthcare and information to their specific needs.

How We Conduct This Research

The iScreen study examines the cost-effectiveness of an online eye screening for older adults (65+) receiving home care. This research utilizes baseline data to explore the connection between vision and health literacy.
