The ophthalmology department of Amsterdam UMC has an academic function and provides complex tertiary eye care. This means that only other medical (eye) specialists can make a referral to us. In addition, our hospital is a teaching hospital where ophthalmology residents and medical interns are trained. Another important task of the ophthalmology department is scientific research.
