Vera Rooth
PhD candidate
Vera Rooth has been working as a PhD student in the Department of Ophthalmology at Amsterdam UMC since 2022. She also works as clinical studies coordinator, in the same department. She graduated as an orthoptist and optometrist and has worked in ophthalmic practice for several years. She also completed a research master’s degree at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. During her doctoral research, she will investigate the cost-effectiveness of an online eye screening, supported by nurses, in elderly people receiving home care.
What makes doing research interesting and challenging for her?
Doing scientific research provides new insights and innovations that can improve ophthalmic care. Vera sees it as a challenge to improve care for the elderly with (avoidable) visual impairments.
