Ger H.M.B. van Rens

Ger van Rens is professor emeritus of ophthalmology and head of the low vision research group of the ophthalmology department of Amsterdam UMC. After studying medicine (Catholic University of Nijmegen) and specializing in ophthalmology (Ooglijdersgasthuis Utrecht), he worked for over 36 years, of which the last 10 as a supervisor and medical manager in ophthalmology, at Elkerliek Hospital. Since 2001, he has combined this position with a chair at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. His chair focuses on research on, and the practice of visual rehabilitation for permanent visual impairments and building bridges between interest groups, practitioners and rehabilitation centers.
